People with Disabilities
Children, youth and adults living with physical, sensory, intellectual or multiple disabilities.
A community-based, disability-led organization working for dignity, independence and full inclusion in Kismayo and Jubaland.
Sahan Developmental Disability Organization (SDDO) is a community-based, disability-led organization dedicated to improving the quality of life, dignity and full inclusion of people living with disabilities in Kismayo and the wider Jubaland region of Somalia.
People with disabilities in Jubaland face multiple barriers including limited access to skills training, lack of mobility equipment, social exclusion and deep-rooted stigma. SDDO was established to respond to these challenges in a practical and people-centred way, guided by the principle of βNothing About Us Without Usβ.
A society in Kismayo and Jubaland where people living with disabilities enjoy equal opportunities, dignity, independence and full inclusion in all aspects of community life.
To empower people living with disabilities through skills development, mobility support, social inclusion and advocacy, so they can live independently, participate fully and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
These values shape our decisions, programmes and relationships every day.
We treat every person with disabilities with respect and uphold their inherent dignity.
We believe people with disabilities have the right to participate fully in community life.
We focus on building skills, confidence and independence rather than creating dependency.
We are transparent and responsible in the use of resources and in our relationships with the community.
We approach our work with care, understanding and genuine concern for the people we serve.
We work in partnership with families, community leaders, local authorities and other organizations.
