Our Strategic Framework
Four interconnected efforts that address the main barriers faced by people living with disabilities in Kismayo and Jubaland.
6.1 Skills Development
We equip people with disabilities with practical vocational and life skills that increase their independence and ability to earn a living. This includes linking them to vocational training centres and supporting them to develop marketable skills.
What we do
- Linking people with disabilities to vocational training centres
- Supporting skills training relevant to the local market
- Encouraging self-reliance and income-generating opportunities
6.2 Mobility Support
We distribute essential mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, walking aids and other assistive devices. Improved mobility is a foundation for greater independence, access to services and participation in daily life.
What we do
- Assessment of mobility needs in the community
- Distribution of appropriate mobility and assistive devices
- Follow-up support to ensure effective use of devices
6.3 Social Inclusion
We create opportunities for people with disabilities to come together, enjoy recreational activities, build friendships and take part in community life. Inclusion also means having fun, belonging and being valued as full members of society.
What we do
- Organizing recreational and social activities
- Facilitating peer support and group meetings
- Promoting participation in community events
6.4 Advocacy and Awareness Raising
We work to reduce stigma and negative attitudes toward disability through community dialogues, engagement with religious and traditional leaders, school awareness sessions and public campaigns. Changing attitudes is essential for lasting inclusion.
What we do
- Community awareness meetings and dialogues
- Engagement with religious leaders, traditional elders and local authorities
- School-based awareness sessions on disability rights and inclusion
- Public messaging to challenge stigma and promote positive attitudes
Our Commitment
Through the four interconnected efforts of Skills Development, Mobility Support, Social Inclusion, and Advocacy & Awareness Raising, SDDO is committed to removing barriers and ensuring that people living with disabilities in Kismayo are not left behind.
